John & Wendy Houston, Co. Fermanagh, Ireland – July 2010.
Comments Off on John & Wendy Houston, Co. Fermanagh, Ireland – July 2010.We thoroughly enjoyed our time in the campervan in 2010 when we travelled to Scotland for two weeks staying at Loch Lomond for the first week and St Andrews for the second week.
It was our first experience of a campervan holiday and initially we were somewhat concerned both about the driving of a large van and secondly setting up camp and being able to operate the various controls in the vehicle. We were well assured by Gavin who from the start gave us a comprehensive training session in the essential working of the campervan and was also available at the end of the phone if help was needed.
We were much impressed by the multifunctional aspect of the van and the ability to hook up to mains electricity, mains water and wastewater outlets at the various campsites. We also enjoyed the independence and the ability to stop along the road and have snacks / meals without having to stop off in towns / villages. Our holiday included a visit to the Open Golf Championship and having the van parked nearby meant we again were able to cater for ourselves and not have to rely on the expensive event hospitality.
My wife and I used the above-cab sleeping area rather than the fold down bed each night and found this to be extremely warm and comfortable. It was a relief not having to fold up / down the main bed which, over 14 nights, could be become quite a chore.
One tip that we would pass on is that it is essential to be aware of other road users when travelling from site to site as the campervan is a large vehicle not renowned for quick acceleration and can be a hold up to other road users – pull over and let them pass by for a quiet life!
We would certainly consider another campervan holiday.
